Hello Perfect!

I had the pleasure of meeting Alexa in 2011 at Teen Vogue Fashion University. I was immediately in awe, she is extremely focused and professional with a real passion for fashion. I have a great respect for her and what she does with Hello Perfect.

The entire concept is purely amazing and I urge all of my readers to go check out her site after you read this interview I conducted with Alexa.

Thank you Alexa for the pleasure of interviewing you and featuring you on The Brunette Shake.

Tell us about yourself, what you do and where you live.
I am 21 years old finishing up my last semester at the University of Florida graduating with a bachelor in Business Administration and minors in Mass Communications and Entrepreneurship. I run the inspirational fashion blog Hello Perfect and plan to continue to grow the company as I graduate and move to New York City to work in the fashion industry.

What inspired you want to start Hello Perfect? Where did you come up with the inspiration/idea for the brand/site?
While interning in the fashion industry in New York City the Summer of 2011 I noticed the pressures of perfection that people are faced with daily and wanted to find a way to help combat those negative images and unrealistic ideals of what it means to be perfect.

How do you describe the fashion scene where you live in comparison to other fashion capitals? As an individual stylesetter, does your personal style get you recognized in your home town?
After living in London and New York City then moving back to Gainesville I have to admit that I am not too big of a fan of the fashion scene in Gainesville. I do continue to rock my own style but there are sometimes where I feel environment comes into effect and some clothing choices I just have to save until I move to NYC. My style helps me express who I am which inspires my friends to do the same with their individual style.

Tell us about your shoe/clothing/accessories collection.
My clothing collection is an eclectic mix ranging from hipster to casual chic. I am obsessed with combat boots and jewelry!!

Tell us something most people don’t know about you.
I write poetry and know how to juggle. ;)

If you could go back in time, to any date when/where would you go and why?
I would travel back to last February when I was living in London with my best friend Angela and we took a trip to Paris. Our last day in Paris we were wandering around different parts of the city and came upon Montmartre which is this BEAUTIFUL hill that overlooks the entire city. We were sitting on the steps beneath the Basilica of the Sacre Coeur looking over the entire city and all of a sudden a Spanish street performer began to play our anthem song, Wonderwall by Oasis. It was literally the most perfect moment.

Social Media is prominent in the fashion world, with fashionista’s using not only Facebook and Twitter but now Pinterest  and so many others as well. What are your favorite social media accounts to follow and why?
IFB because they blog and post about information that helps me run Hello Perfect as well as keep up with new things happening in the blogging industry.

What is your next “must have” purchase?
A new leather purse! Still searching, haven't fallen in love with one yet.

What is the ultimate showpiece in your closet?
My new Bod & Christensen leather jacket!!

What’s on your playlist, bookshelf, and DVD player at the moment?
playlist: Pop Song by Strfkr, Hall Of Fame by The Script, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons and Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding.
bookshelf: The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, Style Feed: The World's Top Fashion Blogs by William Oliver and Daring Greatly by Brene Brown.
DVD player: Almost Famous

What can’t you live without?
my journals and sketch book.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Living in New York City with my best friend and business partner Angela Ribbler working on Hello Perfect and having Hello Perfect a recognizable name in the fashion and entertainment industries.

Next place you want to travel to and why?
Belgium to go to Tomorrowland music festival!

What would you say to someone seeking general fashion advice?
To step out of your comfort zone and forget about what others will say when you want to wear something. Wear it because it makes you feel good, not because it's on trend at the moment or because you feel 'safe' wearing it. Express yourself through your clothing choices and never be afraid to wear what you want!

Favorite Quote.
"If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough." -Lowell Lundstrum

What’s your motto?
Normal gets you nowhere, being yourself gets you everywhere, and we all have the power to create our own reality.

How do you stay positive?
I believe in the law of attraction so anytime I begin to think negatively I remember that I am then attracting negativity into my life. It helps me stay positive even during the hardest times because what you put out to the universe manifests into your reality.

What is YOUR definition of perfect?
Perfect is having the confidence to love yourself and accomplish your wildest dreams.

Finally, what’s the one question you wish people asked you but you’ve never had the opportunity to answer? (And what is the answer?)
Why Hello Perfect and not Hello Beautiful or Gorgeous, etc?
I chose perfect because the word is viewed in such a negative light when describing oneself. People say perfect doesn't exist yet we constantly use it in our vocabulary and use it as a comparison either consciously or not. If we were able to change our perception of the word and create our own definition for it then that comparison would turn from causing you self-doubt to providing you with the confidence needed to never give up on accomplishing your dreams. Being beautiful means you are a beautiful person from within, being gorgeous is a description for your outer appearance and perfect, well that encompasses everything. Perfect is a mindset, it's a lifestyle that anyone can attain. "The challenge in life is not to become perfect, it's accepting that you already are."

The Hello Perfect crew were out on Fashion's Night Out in NYC on September 6th, 2012 and they met Marc Jacobs!
