Smooth Move | My 5 Favourite Smoothies

The Brunette Shake was named after my thought process, that I am forever a brunette and I love to shake things up in life. Which is equally true when it comes to things I eat and drink.

I have been getting into the grove of having a smoothie each and every morning when I wake up, and sometimes even mid-day. I've been having a lot of fun playing around with different recipes that others have shared with me through a post on Facebook, and some that I have found in the depths of the internet (AKA Pinterest). Also, if you don't follow me on Pinterest you totally should. I pin everything pretty and delicious! Like cakes and cupcakes, pies and tarts, style, pink things, home decor, fitness and health, holiday ideas, arts n' crafts...

Of course, after weeks of testing and experiments, I have found my perfect smoothie. I don't really measure either, I kind of just throw handfuls of fruit and liquids into my blender until I feel like it's perfect. I've put some approximate measurements for you guys though.

I have a few really good ones, so I have made this post with all my top smoothies. Some taste like dessert, and if you know me at all, you know I love dessert. If you're looking for frozen fruits I would highly suggest Presidents Choice - they literally have everything, and it always seems to be on sale. I was able to find avocado cubes, coconut chunks and every other fruit I ever wanted.

After switching to smoothies for breakfast, I have gained energy for the day (my work day starts at 7am!), lost a considerable amount of weight (along with my 21 day fix workouts, cardio, weights and yoga!), and have noticed a beautiful change in my skin and hair. I drink boatloads of water too, up to 4L per day.

Smoothie Numero Uno

I have drank this smoothie every morning for the past week. It gives me so much energy and fills me up until well past lunch time, when I get to eat my Mom's delicious recipe for quinoa salad!

This smoothie is a personal recipe that I concocted myself. I like to think of it as "The Green Monster".

Orange Juice (approx 1 cup)
Coconut Water (approx 1/2 cup)
Matcha Green Tea powder (I use a heaping tablespoon of it)
Coconut Oil (yet another tablespoon)
1 Kiwi
1 Banana
1 Scoop Vanilla Protein Powder

Smoothie Numero Dos

I call this one a Strawberry Shortcake smoothie and I found it on Tara Stiles YouTube channel. She's my favourite yogi. This is like eating dessert for breakfast. Really. I also would recommend trying out her yoga videos/classes and checking out her cookbooks. Tara Stiles Eats is one of my favourite YouTube series.

1 ½ cups frozen strawberries OR 1 cup fresh strawberries
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup cashews (you can skip these if you like!)
1 cup almond milk
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon

*As an extra, sometimes I like to add flax and chia seeds!*

Smoothie Numero Tres

Whenever I drink this smoothie, I feel like I know what a monkey would like to drink/eat.

1 Frozen Banana
1 Scoop of Chocolate Protein Powder
1 large tablespoon of Peanut Butter
1/2 cup of ice cubes
1 cup of Chocolate Almond Milk

Smoothie Numero Cuatro

This smoothie tastes like a jelly filled powder donut. Literally like a donut. Like go to Tim Hortons or Dunkin Donuts and get a jelly donut and compare it to this smoothie. I found this recipe on Pinterest and added some flair to make it my own.

Vanilla Almond Milk
1/4 Cup of Rolled Oats (optional!)
Vanilla Yogurt (I use like 2 or 3 tablespoons)
 1 Tablespoon of Almond Butter

Smoothie Numero Cinco

This is my "last but not least" smoothie! I might have to throw a few bonus recipes in here too, because I like to shake things up in life and 5 is just not enough! Kimberly Snyder's Glowing Green Smoothie (AKA GGS) has been my go-to smoothie for about 6 years. It's filling, tasty, and makes you glow from the inside out. It's a fabulous way to incorporate greens into your diet! Not to mention, celebrities love it! I highly suggest getting Kimberly's books as well, they're so wonderful for living a healthy lifestyle.

Glowing Green Smoothie

Smoothie #1

I like to call this the "is it soup or is it a smoothie" because it could go either way. If you want to pop this in the blender and then in the microwave or on the stovetop, I'm sure this would taste equally as great as soup!

Red Bell Pepper
Honey (1 tablespoon, to sweeten it up a bit! Depending on your taste of course)
Pineapple (again, to add some sweetness)
Coconut Oil or Coconut chunks, personally I prefer the oil in this one. A 1/4 cup of chunks or 1 tablespoon of oil. This is also optional depending on your tastes.
Plain greek yogurt (or use honey yogurt!)
Almond milk or Coconut Water

Smoothie #2
This is a recipe is another one made from my beautiful mind! It's quite delicious! If you're looking for a simple, not so thick smoothie this is the one for you. It's like a fruity mocktail that reminds me of Summer.

Watermelon (about a cup. Watermelon is known to make things watery, so dependent on what you like in a smoothie)
Dragonfruit (about half of a dragonfruit)
Strawberries (about 1/4 cup)
Spinach (I use frozen spinach cubes that I made myself, I usually throw in about 2 or 3 cubes)
Coconut Water (about a cup)
Ice (optional! To make it thicker)

Smoothie #3 and #4
This is the smoothie that I always order from Jugo Juice when I've shopped so hard and I'm almost about to drop. It's a toss up between the bad boy called "Big Blue Protein" and the "Green Glow"

Big Blue
Low Fat Frozen Yogurt
Apple Juice
Vanilla Whey/Protein Powder
1 Banana

Green Glow
Coconut Water
Tropical Juice (Mango or Pineapple juice)
1 Banana

Smoothie #5 (I promise I'm done. For now)
I like to call this one Mind Over Matcha! I THINK I had this a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away - when Booster Juice was still at my local mall.

Pure Matcha Green Tea Powder
Vanilla Almond Milk
Vanilla Frozen Yogurt
Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
