My Valentine

Hello my beautiful readers!
I hope you all had a Valentine's Day full of love and laughter. I know I sure did. I was spoiled and surprised, it was the absolute best. I really enjoy spending my time with the one and only, and I can't wait to spend more and more time with him planning for our future.
We went to the mall to check out couples plans for cell phones, and while we were there we had a little adventure in the photobooth. Of course, being "us" we read the directions last and cut out our heads in the photos. Priceless. I think I like the photos even more since there is a story behind them!

My love made me dinner, red velvet heart shaped cupcakes...The bedroom floor was covered in heart shaped balloons, helium heart and Valentines Day balloons were floating all over the room, candles burning on every surface imaginable, the bed had a heart made out of little heart chocolates with a dozen roses laying inside of it with a super adorable white teddy bear, a box of chocolates and a bag full of goodies.

A candid photo of us laughing when we couldn't get the camera to work. LOVE.
The entire evening was amazing, I honestly have never been so happy. I won't lie if you ask if there was whip cream involved...

Lush Haul‎
I am obsessed with Lush.
I have loved Lush ever since I (literally) stumbled into their shop on Broadway in NYC. The smell was absolutely delightful. Once I discovered all the products were made from vegetarian ingredients, handmade, not tested on animals and all organic - I was SOLD. I think I spent almost $100 that day, and I never regretted that splurge.
This haul that I ordered online from arrived in 2 days from the purchase date. I purchased two soaps and my all time favourite lip scrub.
I purchased Sandstone soap and Honey I Washed the Kids soap. The Sandstone soap smells divine and is extremely exfoliating, which is perfect for these winter months! It literally is made of sand and inspired by the beaches of Brazil, where women mix sand with their suntan oil. Honey I Washed the Kids is a honey and caramel soap, so you can only imagine how amazing it smells. My skin feels oh so soft after I use it!
The Popcorn Lip Scrub is one of my all-time favourites from Lush. I can hardly stop myself from eating it straight out of the pot! It's made from fizzy candy, sugar, and coconut oil. So it's perfectly fine to lick your lips clean and then add your favorite lip balm or lipstick on top! It literally scrubs and buffs away all the imperfections on your lips. Completely addicted. My boyfriend loves it too! It's sweet and salty and worth every dime.
Have you ever shopped at Lush?

Elizabeth and James | Nirvana

It is no secret that I adore Mary-Kate and Ashley. Always have, always will. It's just one of those things. Growing up watching Full House and their straight to video movies... wanting all of their clothing... yeah it started at a young age. In fact, I can't remember NOT liking the talented twin sisters.
They recently launched their first perfumes since the days of the Mary-Kate and Ashley Walmart line.
Their new perfumes are distinctly different.
You have two choices with Elizabeth and James Nirvana.
White or Black.
The Black was my first purchase, during the "pre-purchase" time on December 13th, 2013 at my local Sephora store. I was there at 9 a.m. and had my credit card in hand. I don't think I've been that excited for a purchase for a long time!
I got to my car and just couldn't wait any longer, opened up the E and J Black and fell in LOVE. It is absolute perfection. It has a distinct balance of feminine and masculine scents. I can smell a lot of  sandalwood and vanilla. I have been wearing this scent almost everyday. The Black scent makes me think of Mary-Kate. Unique, strong, bohemian and vintage.

When the scents had the official launch just last week, I was sure to pick up the White version as well. My boyfriend prefers the White to the Black. I don't think I can pick a favorite to be honest. They are both so different, and I wear them on different occasions.
The White is a beautifully soft floral scent with hints of musk. It is very feminine. When I think of the White version, I think of Ashley. She is very feminine, and classic. That is exactly what this scent embodies.

If I had to choose, I don't think I could. I enjoy both scents. The scent itself lasts all day, and the scent changes while you wear it. The bottle that the perfume is in is absolute stunning. It was actually inspired by a vintage perfume bottle that Mary-Kate and Ashley own. It is a very different type of bottle, and they both completely stand out in my perfume collection. Strong bottle, elegant scents and just my style.

Kill Them With Kindness

An incident occured yesterday in my personal life/work life that shook my world a little bit. I cannot get into details because of privacy issues. Honestly, she isn't even worth being mentioned. If someone can try to get you to lose your job and create havoc in your workplace, they really need to find something more positive to do with their time. Jealously and insecurity is a very terrible thing. If you're reading this, I hope you can find some positivity somewhere in life and can stay out of mine, you don't know me and I certainly do not care to know you.
There is nothing I dislike more than when women don't support other women.
Being harassed and yelled at, is not something that I am used to. People don't yell at me, and I rarely ever get into fights with people.
I don't like confrontation, and I'd rather kill people with kindness than anything else.
There needs to be more kindness in this world.
If you ever have issues with someone, the mature and better way to go about doing things is to simply send them a quick e-mail and be understanding yet get your point across.
There is an entire epidemic about the "Mean Girl". Why do we feel we even have to be mean? There shouldn't have to be meaness or negativity. A negative mind does not help you achieve anything positive.
If anyone approaches you and is ever mean, or rude; be sure to stay calm and remember that YOU ARE WONDERFUL! This person probably doesn't know you, and if they do, then I don't think they understand you fully.
As women, we need to support each other and empower each other. Enough of trying to tear people down to make yourself feel better! If you're having issues with jealousy or insecurity that's completely okay! It happens to everyone.
Since the incident, I have decided to write a series of blog posts on the "Mean Girl" epidemic, how to get self-esteem, how to handle confrontation, jealousy issues, and so much more! Like I said on February 1st, The Brunette Shake is no longer just a fashion blog. It's a positive place to connect and grow, while talking about women issues as well as fashion and beauty.

How To Pronounce Designer Names 101

It is fundamentally strange how some of the best designers in the world have the most difficult names to pronounce. Not to mention how embarrassing it is when you're talking to a Vogue editor at a gala and you mispronounce a designer... It's very embarrassing, trust me on that one. I guess it's not as embarrassing as accidentally tripping a Vogue editor at Fashions Night Out but that's a whole different story.

This fabulous guide to pronouncing names was published on Harpers Bazaar a few days ago and I HAD to share. As a fashion lover, stylist and writer I couldn't not share with you!

Make sure you're alone if you start pronouncing these out loud, you might get funny looks on the subway if you don't.

Let's get started!! Don't forget to have fun with this lovelies! Fashion is supposed to be fun.

It's Me

Oh The Brunette Shake, the place where I used to go to share fashion love.

A lot has changed since I started this blog, most importantly ME. I've been working on my "come up" for a while now. Many life changes and experiences have shaped who I am today.
I no longer want to be categorized as a "fashion blogger", or let's say the "typical" fashion blogger. Let's allow The Brunette Shake to be a positive place online where women can connect about fashion, love, beauty and everything in between!
I want to be able to share my real life experiences with you and the world. This is the place to follow me on all my daily adventures and real life experiences! This new and improved site terrifies me as well as brings me great joy. It's going to be a very open place where I can answer all those weird questions and share those odd experiences that you may ask "am I the only one this happens to?!".
It's hard to be something you're not. I never was your typical fashion blogger. Sad part was, I really tried to be like everyone else. I looked at other successful blogs and tried to emulate or use their ideas to see if it worked for my blog. It never did. Why try to fit in when you were born to stand out?

Every fashion industry great that I have met, has told me within the first 5 minutes that I am something different. Some of the things I've been told are that I have an infectious laugh, kind eyes, a smile that lightens up the room and a genuinely sweet way about me. I have been compared to Audrey Hepburn on numerous occasions. So why hide behind the cookie-cutter fashion bloggers? Can't I show the world I really am something different?

I have created wonderful relationships with extremely passionate people in the Fashion and Beauty industry, who have given me some of the best advice. I no longer want to try to be that overly confident girl that walks the NYC streets with my nose held high in the sky while I am missing all the things that catch my heart while I try to be "that girl" - the one I'm so NOT.  That's just not me. My closet might be full of Christian Louboutin's, Marc Jacobs dresses, Louis Vuitton handbags and Balenciaga pieces but I am still not your typical fashionista. Time to prove it!

Now, don't get me wrong. You will still see lots of my personal fashion choices, styling and beauty on The Brunette Shake. I mean, I can't hide that I've wanted Doc Martens since I was 7, those rainbow sparkle jelly sandals I had when I was 5 literally changed my life, the dresses I just loved to wear (purple plaid and a side pony tail was my thing. What can I say... I was a child of the '90's), wearing clip on earrings from my Nanny's costume jewelry collection, and so many more little fashion things that make up "me" from when I was a child till I can't hide my passion for fashion and my personal style.

The Brunette Shake now is going to be the place where I can share my life experiences, eco-fashion, pro-love, love and loss, shopping trips, modeling experience, the beauty pageant world, fashion, styling, beauty tips, daily happiness, goals and so much more.

This is my first post of a new era of The Brunette Shake!
