Hillary at Home

My home is an eclectic mix of everything I enjoy.

Vintage art and decor, colourful pieces, modern furniture, cozy pillows, abstract patterns, gold and white...

I don't think my home will ever be finished. There's always something I feel like I need to work on. My current project is photo ledges in the living room with mismatch sizes white framed black and white photos. Very specific. I envision what I want, and I have my on call handy-man help me achieve it. (He's my boyfriend, we live together, but he's handsome and handy!).

Here are some tips and tricks that have helped me decorate and create our home.

1. Choose a colour scheme! It doesn't have to be throughout your home. But, in each room envision what colours you will use and stick to it. You can have one room with a shabby chic vibe with colourful pieces, and another room with strictly white furniture and gold accessories.

2. Fill your home with photos. Nothing makes a home more homey than filling it with photos of your loved ones and happy times you've had!

3. Less is more, if you have clutter, make it a small collection. Have 3 matching candles all beside each other, but keep the rest of the table empty. Have a neat pile of coffee table books on the table. Have cute pillows, but not too many! You still want to be able to sit on your couch!

4.  You can always buy used/vintage furniture and re-do it! Take out your paint brushes and let's get to work! You can do SO much with a can of paint and perhaps some new fancy handles. It can completely change a piece of furniture! We purchased a vintage 1950 vanity table, painted it white and added clear diamond-esque drawer handles and it looks like it was a high priced designer piece.

5. If you love something, it doesn't have to match.

My 27th Birthday Wishes

Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper, I always loved the number 27. I figured when I turned 27 it would be the best year yet!

Winter Wonderland | Holiday Decor

There's nothing I love more than decorating for the holidays! Whether it be Halloween (my #1), Christmas, Easter or Valentine's Day you know that there will be some kind of a festive theme in our home.

Right now, I have a beautiful set up on my fireplace mantel with golden Christmas trees, a gold taxi cab, stocking hangers, and a beautiful gold sparkle sign for the Winter Wonderland that is the holiday season! I also have vases filled with ornaments, lovely holiday scented candles everywhere you look and the standard Charlie Brown Christmas decorations on a hallway table.

My colours for the holiday season are blue and silver, and red and gold. I love the classic Christmas looks, but a little bit of the rustic signage really makes me happy. I'm not a fan of the pink Christmas trees. Or the multi coloured lights. I am a strict white light kinda gal. Or red and green, but that's pushing it!

My favourite places to find holiday decor are HomeSense and Marshalls! They have a huge range of styles and the prices are just right. We limit ourselves to purchasing a few new things each year so that we can fill our home with everything that we envision.

I have been all over Pinterest and Instagram looking for all kinds of DIY crafts, holiday inspiration and photoshoot influences for this upcoming Holiday season! December 1st in upon us, which means I am in full Christmas swing.

This weekend, we will be making some holiday DIY anthropologie inspired snowglobes. Maybe experimenting with making some rustic wood Christmas signs. I really dig the "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Let it Snow" ones you see on Pinterest...

Where do you find your Christmas inspiration? What are your favourite colour themes for the holidays?

Shop With Hillary

I love vintage. I mean I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE vintage.

Vintage clothes are so magical. Someone lived their life in them, and you can imagine all the wonderful and amazing things that could have happened while they were wearing them.

I have quite a clothing collection. Designer, vintage, homemade... You dream of, I probably got it!

I decided to open my own Etsy shop for vintage, another Etsy shop for my homemade beauty products, a third Etsy shop for my handmade decor and an eBay store for my discount designer finds.

I am still getting the swing of things, and are taking more high quality photos this weekend for my Etsy and eBay stores. It's hard to find the dedicated time for the photoshoots I'd like for my postings. I have sold quite a few pieces in a limited amount of time. Majority of my sales are discount designer on eBay, but I get quite a bit of interest on Etsy too!

I've been featured twice on the Etsy New Brunswick Instagram page, and am gaining quite a momentum on eBay for sales also.

I want everyone to have beautiful clothing, so my prices are profitable on a smaller scale to provide designer and vintage goods at a discount.

My beauty products I make strictly for fun! I can spend hours in my kitchen experimenting with new scrubs and bubbly things.

It's a definite work in progress, but I love it!

HGS Creative is where I can share my homemade DIY projects. I spend a lot of time and creativity into each and every project I share! It can be anything from natural stone coasters to abstract art.

Here are my stores for eBay and Etsy! Check out my current listings, and be patient while I get everything up and running!

Hillary's Holiday Wish List 2016

Hillary's Holida Wi

People are always saying I'm hard to buy for because I am the girl that "has everything". Once I know I want/need something, I'm not one to wait around to get it. I work my hardest, save, and get it as soon as I can.

My wishlist is pretty simple for this holiday season.

Gold Oxfords because I've been searching for them for 3 years (see my Twitter, I tell no lie!)
Morning Matra Mug because who doesn't want to start their day drinking tea out of a mug so cute?
Matt & Nat July Curry Backpack because I walk everywhere to justify desserts everywhere
Brite Lite Tribe Lightbox sign because it could make things interesting at my house!
Revice Venus Flares because the bum is a star, and I love stars (and bums!)

What's on your holiday wishlist this year?

I will also be posting some fabulous gift giving guides and stocking stuffer ideas starting very soon! Keep your eyes peeled!

As always, follow me on Instagram for daily updates and SnapChat for some colourful fun!

A Little Hocus Pocus | Halloween 2016

Halloween is my favourite. I enjoy the idea of dressing up as something I can't be every other day of the year. I can never quite choose just one costume and usually end up being several different things. Being a fashion and beauty writer has definitely given me extra Halloween magical powers, because I can dress up as several different characters and people during the month of October with no one batting an eye.

This year I chose to dress up as a few powerful women (both fictional and real) and to play around with some make-up and props! I had a lot of fun recreating looks!

If you're looking for more instant updates be sure to follow me on Instagram and SnapChat! My SnapChat name is ItsHillStew and I try to post daily stories with little snippits of what's going on in my day to day life.

Beauty Talk | Jaclyn Hill's Top Single Eyeshadows

I was insanely excited when I saw Jaclyn Hill upload a video with all of her favourite single shadows that she stores in a custom z-palette.
Jaclyn has quickly become a huge part of the beauty community on social media and YouTube. She is extremely influential, and pretty much anything that she mentions in her videos becomes sold out immediately.
I was very interested to see what single shadows she chose for her day to day make-up. Personally, I am very drawn towards neutrals, shimmers and anything gold. I have been testing out the waters and experimenting with really wonderfully warm shades, which Jaclyn is seen wearing all the time!
I really wanted to review the shades that she shared with my own commentary!
  • MAC Nylon –  super frosty highlight with yellow undertone, can be used as a highlighter too. I think I need this! I have seen this used on Camilla Belle and she is my favourite beauty inspiration
  • Makeup Geek Mirage – natural looking highlight, slight sheen. I think I will pass on this one! I have so many highlights already
  • Makeup Geek Rapunzel – perfect amount of sheen, great for brow bone highlight, looks gorgeous on a lot of skin tones. Really gorgeous colour. Reminds me of something a young teen would wear.
  • Makeup Geek Peach Smoothie – one of her favorite transition colors, very natural and a must have. I have this shade I am obsessed with it, I literally use it or a dupe of it every single day.
  • Makeup Geek Creme Brûlée – beautiful natural shade - same idea as Peach Smoothie. I have this shade and obsess over it! I can wear this just as an all over lid shade and be completely fine with it!
  • MAC Soft Brown – similar to Creme Brûlée, pinkish undertone. I have the Too Faced Chocolate Bar palette so I don't really think I need this in my collection.
  • Makeup Geek Frappe – medium-tone brownish red. I may need to purchase this is the very near future!
  • MAC Kid – Might be discontinued, great transition color for someone with really fair skin like moi! I'm very fair skinned, so if this is not discontinued, I might have to give it a try!
  • Makeup Geek Barcelona Beach – a lot of grey tones in this shadow... I hate cool tones. I look practically dead when I wear them so I am totally passing on this shade!
  • Anastasia Fawn – great transition color, very neutral brown. I already own the Anastasia Couture palette and I love the pigmentation. I might have to bite the bullet and order some of the singles!
  • MAC Saddle – Amazing for the crease! Bronze/warm brown. I have so many dupes for this already, so I am not really interested in purchasing this! A very standard shade!
  • Makeup Geek Desert Sands – Mustardy-yellow heaven is how I would describe this. I am literally obsessed with this one. I have this in the Vegas Lights palette and I want to wear it every minute of everyday!
  • Makeup Geek Chickadee – peachy-orange shade. Friggin' fantastic! I have this shade and have used it quite a few times for dramatic looks, but only when I have a slight tan.
  • MAC Amber Lights – rusty gold. I own this shade already and I use it as an all over the lid shade for a quick, yet chic, look.
  • MAC Swiss Chocolate – not pigmented, deep purple-brown shade. Looks like something I want to swatch myself at MAC to make up my mind if I need it or not.
  • MAC Red Brick – matte red-orange. This shade is insane. I don't know if I ever would actually use it? Or if it would just sit in my z-palette to inspire me to try new things (and then get scared and do a neutral look).
  • Makeup Geek Poppy – Pink and coral shade. I'm on the fence about this shade. It really does remind me of a Poppy though.  Didn't Kathleen Lights do a Tutorial with this shade?
  • Anastasia Henna – Statement shade, coppery/rusty red very pigmented . It needs to be mine. Already bookmarked. Come to MOMMA!
  • MAC Coppering – Shimmery copper metallic shade.  Need. Definate need. Now where are my car keys so I can go to MAC? Anyone?
  • Makeup Geek Cocoa Bear – all matte burnt red/brown. So much yes. I have this shade and adore it!
  • Anastasia Fudge – very dark fudge brown. Literally the colour of chocolate fudge. I don't know if I need this or not. Reminds me of Too Faced.
  • Makeup Geek Grandstand – great for a literally everything. Smokey eyes, all over the lid shade... pops of sparkle. Pink/Champagne. I have this. I love this. We have a very beautiful love affair going on right now. It's so pigmented I could cry, but I won't because I just did my make-up.
  • Makeup Geek Vintage – matte medium toned cool purple. I'm not into it. I don't like cool tones. I just can't.
  • Makeup Geek Cherry Cola – purpley cherry undertone. I love this. The name and everything. I pretty much need it.
  • Anastasia Aubergine – Great sheen, purple shade. Need. Already on my wishlist. Let's move on.
  • Makeup Geek Bitten – warm burgundy/purple shade. Own it. You need it. Literally go buy it right now. One of Jaclyn's favs!
  • Makeup Geek Americano – medium cool toned matte brown. Too cool toned for this gal.
  • Makeup Geek Cupcake – soft pink, hard to wear if you are fair. So perfect for a teen's first shadow!  I need to buy this for my little sister. Would look stunning with her baby blues!
  • Anastasia Macaroon – lilac purple color, very intense shimmer. NEED. ALL SHIMMERS ALL THE TIME! #CANTSTOPWONTSTOP
  • Makeup Geek Houdini – emerald turquoise blue. Oh my goodness. Yes. I own this and use it when I want to be all flashy and lovely.
  • Makeup Geek Dragonfly – bright aqua blue. Basically needs to be my new best friend. Be bold! Be BLUE! Plus, it's called dragonfly. So I need it.
  • Makeup Geek Jester – foiled eyeshadow olive green with golden undertones. How do I not own this already? BRB online shopping
  • Makeup Geek Dirty Martini – matte olive green. Got it. Love.
  • Makeup Geek Enchanted Forrest – all matte forest green. So much yes. I own this because Kathleen Lights snap chatted about it and basically made me buy it.

Currently Playing : Work From Home

The past week has literally been me drooling over the construction workers in this video by Fifth Harmony. Literal drool. Take a look for yourself at the video below, and try to catch yourself NOT singing it for the next 5 days. #cantstopwontstop

Spring Sunshine

Nothing makes me happier than waking up to birds singing, and the sun shining. It definitely brings a smile to my face!
Lately, I have been concentrating on my efforts to raise money for WWF Canada! It's a very exciting endeavor, and I love to help the world and the animals who live on it. Environmental activism and helping animals are near and dear to my heart.
Today, I sported a cute floral dress from Forever21 with a burgundy faux leather jacket, some floral fish net tights and a pair of super metallic silver Bullboxer heels.
The outfit made me very happy, putting together cute and fun outfits is kind of my thang.
I've been finding inspiration everywhere, it really helps to inspire the creative juices to start flowing.
Check out my outfit below and on my Instagram too! Follow me there for daily shenanigans and colourful peeks into my life.

My Life | Winter Updates

The past few months have been very busy for me. They've been filled with changes (both positive and negative) but have definitely helped me grow as a woman.
I was able to spend quality time with my family, visit my grandmother in Prince Edward Island, redecorate my home, work on my personal goals, start a new job, make a whole bunch of homemade facial scrubs, work up a sweat baking/cooking in the kitchen, plan a trip to Toronto for an adventure with WWF...
I've been a busy gal!
I was so happy to see all the new fashions from NYFW in February, Ashley Graham on the cover of SI: Swimsuit Edition, and of course all of my journals getting filled with funny antidotes.
I had a few really great photoshoots over the Winter months and also battled a few illnesses that definitely kept me on the down low. Unknown stomach issues, lung infection...
Also, my bangs currently touch the tip of my nose so there's that as well. Thankfully I have a hair appointment on Wednesday with my favourite hair dresser. Hello beautiful hair! I mean, that's if I can wait until Wednesday - I might just grab a bowl and some scissors and call it a day.
Over the winter months, I have really been focusing on natural beauty and using natural (homemade) products on my skin. As a general rule, I don't use foundation. I really love to slather myself in coconut oil and just literally soak in it and watch reruns with my boyfriend.
How has your winter been? Sorry for being so MIA, will be posting some more videos and photoshoots soon! Make sure to check out my Instagram for daily updates and pretty things!
