Hillary at Home

My home is an eclectic mix of everything I enjoy.

Vintage art and decor, colourful pieces, modern furniture, cozy pillows, abstract patterns, gold and white...

I don't think my home will ever be finished. There's always something I feel like I need to work on. My current project is photo ledges in the living room with mismatch sizes white framed black and white photos. Very specific. I envision what I want, and I have my on call handy-man help me achieve it. (He's my boyfriend, we live together, but he's handsome and handy!).

Here are some tips and tricks that have helped me decorate and create our home.

1. Choose a colour scheme! It doesn't have to be throughout your home. But, in each room envision what colours you will use and stick to it. You can have one room with a shabby chic vibe with colourful pieces, and another room with strictly white furniture and gold accessories.

2. Fill your home with photos. Nothing makes a home more homey than filling it with photos of your loved ones and happy times you've had!

3. Less is more, if you have clutter, make it a small collection. Have 3 matching candles all beside each other, but keep the rest of the table empty. Have a neat pile of coffee table books on the table. Have cute pillows, but not too many! You still want to be able to sit on your couch!

4.  You can always buy used/vintage furniture and re-do it! Take out your paint brushes and let's get to work! You can do SO much with a can of paint and perhaps some new fancy handles. It can completely change a piece of furniture! We purchased a vintage 1950 vanity table, painted it white and added clear diamond-esque drawer handles and it looks like it was a high priced designer piece.

5. If you love something, it doesn't have to match.

My 27th Birthday Wishes

Ever since I was knee high to a grasshopper, I always loved the number 27. I figured when I turned 27 it would be the best year yet!

Winter Wonderland | Holiday Decor

There's nothing I love more than decorating for the holidays! Whether it be Halloween (my #1), Christmas, Easter or Valentine's Day you know that there will be some kind of a festive theme in our home.

Right now, I have a beautiful set up on my fireplace mantel with golden Christmas trees, a gold taxi cab, stocking hangers, and a beautiful gold sparkle sign for the Winter Wonderland that is the holiday season! I also have vases filled with ornaments, lovely holiday scented candles everywhere you look and the standard Charlie Brown Christmas decorations on a hallway table.

My colours for the holiday season are blue and silver, and red and gold. I love the classic Christmas looks, but a little bit of the rustic signage really makes me happy. I'm not a fan of the pink Christmas trees. Or the multi coloured lights. I am a strict white light kinda gal. Or red and green, but that's pushing it!

My favourite places to find holiday decor are HomeSense and Marshalls! They have a huge range of styles and the prices are just right. We limit ourselves to purchasing a few new things each year so that we can fill our home with everything that we envision.

I have been all over Pinterest and Instagram looking for all kinds of DIY crafts, holiday inspiration and photoshoot influences for this upcoming Holiday season! December 1st in upon us, which means I am in full Christmas swing.

This weekend, we will be making some holiday DIY anthropologie inspired snowglobes. Maybe experimenting with making some rustic wood Christmas signs. I really dig the "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Let it Snow" ones you see on Pinterest...

Where do you find your Christmas inspiration? What are your favourite colour themes for the holidays?
